Their favorite treats are frozen foods like shrimp brine and bloodworms. Halfmoon bettas diet should consist of varied foods including pelleted foods and quality flake foods. Primary foods for halfmoon bettas are kelp and green and red algae. Their diet cannot consist of plant material solely. Generally, other betta species don’t eat such foods. 

Thus, their food habits distinguish them from other bettas. As they have a short digestive channel so overeating can cause constipation and swim bladder disease. Halfmoon bettas cannot live in contaminated water so leftover food should be removed after feeding.

Where To Find Halfmoon Betta?

Halfmoon betta fish are tropical region fish which are originated from Southeast Asia. They prefer a warm water environment of 24-28 degrees Celsius. They can be found in vast areas of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia. 

Halfmoon bettas are very sensitive to water quality so they can be found in rice paddies and canals of Southeast Asia. They have very low survival rates. So, the proper heater should be managed otherwise Halfmoon bettas will face health risks. If proper care is taken then this rare species can survive 3-4 years.
